History

At the Agricola Monte Castello Estate, we resurrected an ancient olive grove 500 metres above Lake Garda in northern Italy which had over three hundred 100 year old olive trees.

With the help of a well known local agronomist who is the expert on the olive trees for this area we planted an additional 250 trees.

By planting 60% Casaliva, 30% Leccino and 10% Pendolino olive varieties, this ensures a wonderful harmonious balance to the taste.

We have also been granted Organic Certification, D.O.P (Delimited area of Production Guaranteed), and H.S. (High standard) certification which is only given to those growers who comply exactly with the stringent rules and regulations surrounding the production of the highest quality extra virgin olive oil.

After severe pruning to produce the highest quality fruit, the olives are hand-picked and pressed within two hours which is crucial to maintain maximum freshness and eliminate the risk of oxidation. After natural filtration through muslin so as not to bruise the oil, we have succeeded in producing a limited production of olive oil of exceptional finesse and quality; the finest in the region.

Agricola Monte Castello are now members of the 'Slow Food International Association' and also 'Demeter' the bio-dynamic association.
